Amanda & Edwin Engagement Session

Amanda and Edwin, with Rocco the English Cocker Spaniel. I must say that Rocco was rather calm during the entire shoot. He contently studied the surrounding area and goings on, not paying much attention to me at all. The weather was gorgeous as the four of us walked around the Guthrie in Minneapolis.

Lisa & Terrence Engagement

We shot engagement photos on a beautiful Friday morning in the Minneapolis warehouse district, in the area where my former studio was located for about 15 years. The now named North Loop, has changed dramatically, but you can still find the original warehouse feeling and graffiti, scattered within the updated version of the area.

Clare and Dean

This photo of Clare and Dean was taken at the end of Clare’s senior photo session east of New Richmond, WI at Dean’s farm. Clare had wanted something different for her senior photos, rusted vehicles and farm equipment, and vintage wardrobe. So Clare and I and her Dad, Butch, went on a photo safari at Dean’s sheep farm. We shot around the rusted metal, tractors, various apparatus, and the sheep and cats. Clare and Dean had never met before.  I had only spoken to Dean once previous. This photo was a last second grab as we were leaving, heading back to the cities.

I had been planning on entering this in the State Fair Fine Arts competition for some time, but keep forgetting. So I finally pull this from the archives a few days ago, then realize the State Fair rules say photos must be created after Jan. 1, 2010, so this image is out for this competition.

Anyway, I love the incongruous nature of these two, with the leaning barn and miscellaneous farm items strewn about. If I didn’t know, I’d guess she was his grand daughter, returning for a visit.

Don Shelby Home

I had the chance to photograph Don Shelby for Tonka Times Magazine recently. Don and his wife Barbara have built a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified home in Excelsior. I urge you to read the Tonka Times article about their energy efficient home here. The Shelby’s chose the Landshute Group as their architect and builder. Their new home used lumber from the previous cottage that stood on the site, has efficient heating and air conditioning, re-uses gray water, has a pervious driveway to prevent run off into Lake Minnetonka, and has solar panels. There is much more information about their home in the article.

We ended up shooting just twenty-some hours before the house opened for the Parade of Homes. Crews were working throughout the house. Furniture and props for staging the home were scattered around. Don’s office was already propped, so we started up there, above the garage. When I learned the caricature was Dave Moore, I just had to shoot a series of Don with Dave in the background, even though it had absolutely nothing to do with the Tonka Times article.

Shooting inside and out, we grabbed a few pics of Jon Monson, owner of Landshute, and had Don stand in the tub (oh, it just seemed like the right thing to do). Don picked up the shower head like it was a microphone, which cracked me up.

The slideshow contains the Tonka Times Magazine article, along with the original images, and a few of the out takes.

Nice work Don!

3M Commercial Photo Shoot

Here are a few of the 350 or so shots we took for 3M, along with behind the scene action of the crew working, watching or sleeping. The product is the tape on handle, which can hold up to 40 pounds. We ripped through this lively shoot in 5 hours. Alice scored a nap in the heat of the action.
